EU Adds $70 Million to AIDS, TB, Malaria Fund

The European Union says it is giving an additional $70 million to help fund the battle against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in developing countries.

This new contribution, announced Monday, brings the total EU commitment to the Global Fund to fight the diseases to more than $500 million.

The Global Fund was started in 2002 with the help of governments, private organizations and local health officials. Authorities say it has so far committed more than three billion dollars to fight the often poverty-related diseases.
