US Military: Bomb Attack Video is False

The U.S. military in Iraq says a videotape claiming to show a roadside bomb attack that killed at least 10 U.S. Marines near Fallujah three days ago is false "disinformation."

A U.S. statement Sunday says circumstances of the attack on Thursday do not match those shown on the video.

Arabic broadcaster al-Jazeera, which broadcast the video Saturday, said it came from the insurgent group "Islamic Army in Iraq." The pictures showed a large explosion engulfing a U.S. military vehicle flanked by troops on foot patrol.

An American spokesman says it has not yet been determined whether the video depicts an actual attack on U.S. forces, but any suggestion that it shows the December 1 attack is false.

Separately, Iraqi police say unidentified gunmen in Baghdad shot and killed the leader (imam) of a Shi'ite Muslim mosque in the capital. The victim also was a candidate in this month's Iraqi general election.

Police say Sheikh Abdul-Salam Abdul-Hussein was gunned down today in Baghdad's eastern Zayouna neighborhood. He was known as a follower of radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
