Demonstrators in Paris Show Support for Kidnapped US Journalist in Iraq

update

A press freedom group has held a demonstration in Paris to call attention to the plight of an American journalist kidnapped in Iraq exactly one month ago.

Reporters Without Borders organized the protest in an area overlooking the River Seine Tuesday, as demonstrators released 30 white balloons, one to represent each day of Jill Carroll's captivity.

There is no word on the fate of the 28-year-old freelance reporter, but she has been seen in two video broadcasts on al-Jazeera television.

The head of the press freedom group, Robert Menard, also called on the crowd to show support for two Iraqi journalists identified as Reem Zeid and Marwan Khazaal, who have not been heard from since their abduction February 1.

Menard says 37 journalists have been kidnapped in Iraq since March 2003, and five of them have been killed.
