Nigerian Militants Release More Pictures of Hostages

update

Nigerian militants have released more pictures of foreign oil workers held hostage for a week in the country's southern delta region.

The militants released photographs Friday of nine men and said there are no plans to negotiate for their release. The kidnappers earlier released pictures of seven of the men.

The men were kidnapped last Saturday while laying a pipeline for Shell oil company. The hostages include three Americans, a Briton, two Egyptians, a Filipino, and two Thais.

The militants, from the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, have also carried out several attacks in the Niger Delta region, damaging pipelines and an oil loading terminal.

Four other oil workers were kidnapped by militants in January, but were released after 19 days.

The militants are demanding greater local control over the Niger Delta's oil wealth, as well as the release of two jailed ethnic Ijaw leaders.
