The United States has defeated Denmark 3-0 to move a step closer to a second-round berth at the World Ice Hockey Championships in Riga, Latvia.
Team USA got goals from Andrew Alberts, Yan Stastny and Richard Park Sunday to go along with a shutout performance by goalkeeper Craig Anderson of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks.
It was the second win for the Americans, who powered past Norway, 3-1 in their opener Friday. The United States finishes Group D play against Canada on Tuesday. Denmark is winless in its two games. Canada also earned its second win, going to the top of the Group D standings with a 7-1 drubbing of Norway.
In Group A Sunday, the Czech Republic held on for a 5-4 win over Slovenia after jumping out to a 4-0 first-period lead. The Czechs played host-Latvia to a 1-1 draw in their opening game. Latvia fell 5-0 to Finland in the late Group A match.
