U.S. officials say the son of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met briefly with President Bush at the White House last week.
National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones said Tuesday, that Gamal Mubarak was meeting with national security adviser Stephen Hadley when Mr. Bush stopped in. Jones says Mr. Bush extended his wishes to President Mubarak.
Gamal, considered the presumed political heir to his father, also met with Vice President Dick Cheney.
The previously unannounced meetings came as the United States voiced concern over Egypt's crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators and a U.S. government report questioned the effectiveness of U.S. aid to Egypt.Some information for this report was provided by AFP, and AP.
