Romanian Soldier, Turkish Worker Among 10 Killed in Afghanistan

update

Officials with the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan say an explosion near a military convoy in southern Afghanistan has killed one Romanian soldier and wounded four others.

Military officials say the blast occurred near the southern city of Kandahar.

In neighboring Helmand province, coalition and Afghan troops attacked a Taleban camp, killing five militants and wounding eight others.

And, in western Farah province, militants attacked a convoy of a Turkish construction company, killing a Turkish driver and three Afghan guards. At least two other guards were wounded in the attack late Monday.

Afghan and coalition troops are in the midst of a large-scale offensive dubbed Operation Mountain Thrust against Taleban insurgents in four southern provinces. Some 10,000 troops are involved.
