Oscar Freire Wins 5th Stage of Tour de France, Boonen Retains Overall Lead

Spanish cyclist Oscar Freire has won the fifth stage of the Tour de France, but Belgian rider Tom Boonen has retained the overall lead.

Freire finished at the front of a pack of riders that completed the 225-kilometer ride in 5:18:50. Boonen was second with Inaki Isasi of Spain third.

Boonen remains the overall leader, 13 seconds head of Michael Rogers of Australia. Freire is third overall, 17 seconds behind the leader.

Friday's sixth stage covers 184 kilometers, between Lisieux and Vitré in western France. The race ends in Paris July 23.
