Venezuelan President to Arrive in Iran

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is to travel to Iran Friday as part of his two-week world tour.

Mr. Chavez is to meet with his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in Tehran. The leaders are expected to sign several deals during the three-day visit.

Venezuela's president is in Qatar, leading a delegation that includes Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez.

Mr. Chavez was previously in Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Venezuela sealed a deal with Russia Thursday to buy Russian fighter jets and helicopters. The head of Russia's state arms export agency says the contracts are worth more than $3 billion.

The United States has banned arms sales to Venezuela because of the government's alleged ties to Iran and Cuba.
