3 Suspects Appear in Court in Airline Bombing Plot Case

update

A British court has ordered three more suspects in the alleged plot to bomb U.S.-bound passenger jets to remain in custody.

All three made their first appearance in court in London Wednesday.

A magistrate formally charged the three with conspiracy to commit murder and planning acts of terrorism. He ordered them to return to court September 18.

The men are among 11 suspects charged with conspiracy in connection to what police said was a plot to blow up as many as 10 airliners with liquid explosives. They are among 25 suspects that police arrested on August 10.

Of those 25, four other suspects face lesser charges and five more are being held without charge. Police released five suspects without charging them.

Police say all of the suspects are British Muslims and most are of Pakistani descent.

Police said last week they had recovered 400 computers, 200 cell phones, explosives manuals and martyrdom videos in the August 10 raids.

Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters.
