Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister to Visit Iran

Iraq's deputy prime minister is to head a delegation of officials in a visit to Iran.

Iran's news agency (IRNA) reports Barham Saleh is scheduled to arrive in Tehran Tuesday for talks with senior officials aimed at enhancing economic relations between the neighboring nations.

The report said Iraq's finance and trade ministers will accompany Saleh.

Many in Iraq's Shi'ite-dominated leadership have close ties with the Islamic regime in mainly Shi'ite Iran.

In July 2005, former Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari visited Iran, the first official visit since the 2003 war that toppled the regime of Saddam Hussein.
