Rose, Wetterich Lead After Masters First Round

England's Justin Rose and Masters rookie Brett Wetterich share the lead after the first round of the Masters golf tournament, the first major tournament of the year.

Both Rose and Wetterich shot three-under-par 69s on the Augusta National Golf Club course. Rose is playing on the PGA Tour for the first time in six weeks after injuring his back. This is the first year that American Wetterich has played in the Masters.

David Howell of England and David Toms of the United States share third place, one stroke off the lead at two-under-par 70.

Only nine players are under par - but defending champion Phil Mickelson and world No. 1 Tiger Woods of the United States are not among them. Mickelson shot a four-over-par 76 while Woods had a one-over-par 73 in his first round.

Former champion Vijay Singh of Fiji is also one-over-par for the tournament while two-time champion Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain is two-over-par 74. Colin Montgomerie of Scotland and former U.S. Open winner Michael Campbell of New Zealand are four-over-par.
