The U.S. State Department has issued a new warning for U.S. citizens considering travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories.
In a statement Friday, the State Department said the fresh warning supersedes a previous travel alert for the region issued in January. It cited "considerable violence" in recent months between Palestinian factions, as well as between Israeli security forces and armed Palestinian groups.
It urged U.S. citizens to be mindful of security when traveling to Israel and Jerusalem. The statement recommended that all Americans, including journalists and aid workers, defer travel to the West Bank and avoid any travel in the Gaza Strip.
