Runner Guevara Wins Women's 400 Meters Again at Pan Am Games


Mexican runner Ana Gabriela Guevara has won the women's 400-meter race for the third straight time at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro while Brazilian Hudson Souza retained his men's 1,500-meter title in record time.

Guevara won in 50.34 seconds Wednesday. Guevara also won at the 1999 and 2003 Pan Am Games. Souza broke the 12-year-old Pan Am record by almost four seconds in three minutes, 36.32 seconds.

Highlighting other results, Jamaican Deloreen Ennis-London won the 100-meter hurdles in 12.65 seconds, another Pan Am record.

Six-time softball champion the United States routed Brazil and Colombia without conceding a run or hit in starting the defense of their title. The Americans beat Brazil, 7-0, in five innings, and Colombia, 4-0.
