Steve Martin married girlfriend Anne Stringfield in a surprise July 28 ceremony at his Los Angeles home.
The actor-comedian's publicist Alan Nierob said former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey presided over the wedding, while "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels was best man.
Most of the roughly 75 guests - who included Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Carl Reiner, and Ricky Jay - reportedly thought the occasion was merely a party and not a wedding.
The 61-year-old Martin was previously married to actress Victoria Tennant, whom he divorced in 1994 after eight years.
It was the first marriage for Stringfield, 35, a writer and former staffer for The New Yorker Magazine. Nierob said the two had dated for about three years.
Steve Martin delivered his marriage vows sporting a mustache he let grow for his appearance as Inspector Clouseau in the upcoming sequel to the 2006 comedy The Pink Panther.
