Palestinian medics say Israeli troops killed three Palestinians Thursday during a gunbattle with militants in the central Gaza Strip.
Palestinian officials say a teenager died after he was run over by an Israeli bulldozer. Israel's military says it is investigating the incident.
Palestinian medics say two men also were killed in the fighting, including one Hamas militant.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military says it has detained more than 30 Palestinians in a West Bank refugee camp, Ein Bet Ilmeh, where Israeli troops have been operating since Tuesday.
The military says the detainees include three Hamas militants suspected of planning suicide bombings against Israel.
In another development, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Thursday he will ask his Cabinet next week to approve the release of more Palestinian prisoners as a gesture to President Mahmoud Abbas.
Mr. Olmert did not say how many Palestinian prisoners he plans to free, but says they will not include militants who have, in his words, "blood on their hands".
The Israeli government declared Hamas-ruled Gaza an "enemy entity" Wednesday and threatened to cut off fuel and power supplies to the territory if militants keep firing rockets at southern Israel.
