Boston's Manny Ramirez hit a dramatic game-ending three-run home run in the ninth inning to lead the Red Sox to a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels in their Major League Baseball playoff series.
Boston was trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning when a fan prevented Angels' catcher Jeff Mathis from catching a foul ball hit by Ramirez. Ramirez then drew a walk, and teammate Mike Lowell eventually drove in the tying run.
The Red Sox now lead their American League Divisional series 2-0. They can advance to the A.L. Championship Series with a win Sunday in Los Angeles.
Earlier Friday, the Cleveland Indians beat the New York Yankees 2-1 in 11 innings. Cleveland had runners on all three bases when Travis Hafner hit a single that drove in veteran Kenny Lofton for the game-ending run.
The Indians hold a 2-0 lead over the Yankees in their A.L. divisional series, and can advance to the championship with a win Sunday at Yankee Stadium in New York.
The two National League division series resume Saturday. The Colorado Rockies will take on the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Arizona Diamondbacks play the Chicago Cubs. Both Colorado and Arizona lead their series by a 2-0 margin.
