Russian news agencies say a top federal security officer is among nine suspects charged in connection with the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya last year.
The reports published Wednesday quote sources close to the investigation as saying Lieutenant Colonel Pavel Ryaguzov of Russia's Federal Security Service was charged with abuse of office.
Investigators suspect Ryaguzov gave Politkovskaya's address to another suspect who then gave the information to her killer. The security officer was arrested in August in a different case.
The office of Russia's Prosecutor General said Wednesday nine people have been charged with the Politkovskaya killing. The journalist, whose reporting was often critical of the Kremlin, was shot dead in her Moscow apartment building in October 2006.
