Iran Says Talks With EU Set for Next Week, EU Has Not Confirmed

Iranian media say Iran's chief nuclear negotiator and a top European Union official are to meet next week to discuss Tehran's nuclear program.

But in Brussels, the European Union has not confirmed any such meeting.

Iranian media quote Iran's deputy nuclear negotiator, Javad Vaeedi, as saying the talks between Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana will take place November 30 in London.

Earlier Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ruled out making any concessions to the West in Iran's nuclear program.

In a speech in the northern Iranian city of Ardabil, Mr. Ahmadinejad said that if Iran offered even a small nuclear concession, Western powers would later make threats and seek more concessions.

EU foreign policy chief Solana is due to report to world powers by the end of this month on Iran's willingness to comply with their demands that it suspend uranium enrichment.

The report could determine whether the United Nations Security Council decides to impose a third set of sanctions on Iran, which Western nations accuse of seeking to covertly develop nuclear weapons. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters.
