Paerson Wins First WC Downhill Title in Almost 2 years

Olympic slalom gold medalist Anja Paerson of Sweden has edged American Lindsey Vonn to capture her first World Cup downhill ski race in almost two years.

Paerson finished the Corviglia course in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1:39.32 seconds for her first victory of the season. A triple gold medalist at last year's world championships in Are, Sweden, Paerson had not won a World Cup downhill since March of 2006.

Vonn was second, just 0.08 seconds back. Germany's Maria Riesch was third, 0.33 seconds off the winner.

Marlies Schild of Austria leads the overall World Cup standings with 343 points. Compatriot Nicole Hosp is second with 339 points while Paerson moved into third overall with 283 points.
