Men's US College Basketball Semis Saturday

update

The men's U.S. college basketball tournament semifinals are Saturday in San Antonio, Texas. As VOA's David Byrd reports, Kansas faces North Carolina while UCLA plays Memphis.

The Kansas Jayhawks take on the University of North Carolina, which is trying to win the title for the fifth time.

Kansas will have to contain Associated Press player of the year Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina. The junior forward almost single-handedly revived UNC against Louisville last week.

Kanas Coach Bill Self says that Hansbrough is a tough weapon, but he thinks speed on defense will be key to defending the Tar Heels.

"I would says defending the first five to 10 seconds of the possession. That may sound very simple but that's very accurate because they will get shots up in that time frame. If you worry so much about getting back, that takes away your aggressiveness going," he said.

The other semifinal has UCLA taking on Memphis. The winners Saturday play for the national title Monday here in San Antonio.
