Spain has defeated Russia, 3-0, to reach the final of the European Football Championships for the first time since 1984.
In
a pouring rain in Vienna, Austria, Xavi Hernandez , in the 50th minute,
Dani Guiza, in the 73rd minute and David Silva in the 82nd minute
scored for Spain, all in the second half of play. The Spaniards
dominated Thursday night's game, while Russia's offense never got
untracked.
Spain won the European title in 1964, when it beat
the former Soviet Union, 2-1. The Spaniards had never lost to Russia
in four previous meetings, including a 4-1 pasting in the first round
of this tournament, being co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland.
Spain
will face Germany in the title match Sunday in Vienna. Germany won its
semifinal on Wednesday over Turkey, 3-2, in Basel, Switzerland.
