Walt Disney's world-famous character Mickey Mouse turns 80-years-old Tuesday.
Mickey made his starring debut as a mischievous deckhand aboard a riverboat in the animated movie Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928. His creator, Walt Disney, provided the voice.
Though the familiar squeaky voice remains the same, Mickey's appearance has changed a bit since Disney sketched the first images of a rounded rodent with big ears and small shorts. Mickey Mouse is now a little rounder and a little squatter with iconic white gloves and red shorts.
Today, Mickey's ears are one of the most recognized corporate symbols in the world.
The U.S.-based Walt Disney company has theme parks in several countries and television channels in more than 100 countries, helping turn characters such as Mickey and his companion Minnie Mouse into global icons.
