update

Afghan police say a suicide bomber killed 10 civilians during an attack on a police convoy in southern Afghanistan.

Local police official Police Chief Assadullah Shairzad says another 27 people, including two policemen, were wounded in Monday's attack.

The bombing took place at a market in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province.

Officials say Abdul Rahim Desewal, the head of Andar district, was killed in the city of Ghazni Monday morning as he left his home.

His bodyguard was wounded in the attack.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed says the group claims responsibility for the killing.
