10 Killed in US Shooting Spree


Police in the the southern U.S. state of Alabama say a man went on a shooting spree in two counties leaving 10 people dead, including relatives, apparent strangers and himself.

Authorities say the bloody rampage began Tuesday afternoon when the unidentified gunman allegedly burned down his mother's home in Coffee County, near the border with the southeastern state of Florida.

Investigators say the shooting spree may have spanned four different locations. Authorities say the attacker led police on a chase to Geneva County about 19 kilometers away, firing on state troopers and others along the way. Investigators say the gunman ended up at a metals plant in the town of Geneva, where he fatally shot himself.

Authorities say the victims include the gunman's mother, grandparents, aunt, and the wife and child of a sheriff's deputy. Investigators believe the unidentified gunman also killed a person at a supply store and another at a service station.
