3 Insurgents Killed by Own Bomb in Afghanistan

Afghanistan's Interior Ministry says a suicide bomber killed himself and two accomplices when his explosives-filled vest detonated prematurely.

The explosion took place in the southwestern province of Nimroz late Monday. Media reports say the suicide bomber was preparing to attack foreign forces nearby in the vicinity of Delaram district.

And, NATO military officials issued a statement Tuesday saying two soldiers, including one American, died in separate attacks using improvised explosive devices. The bombings occurred Monday in southern Afghanistan.

In related news, New Zealand has sent 70 troops from its elite SAS combat force to rejoin the war in Afghanistan.

It is New Zealand's fourth detachment of SAS troopers to be sent to Afghanistan since 2001, but the first since 2005.

New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key says it is vital that the international coalition defeats the insurgency.

The deployment comes as military commanders in Afghanistan weigh the need for more troops.

New Zealand also has an army reconstruction unit of 140 personnel in Afghanistan.
