FIFA Allows Ronaldinho to Play - 2001-08-03

update

A six-month tug-of-war has ended to allow Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho to make his debut with French football club Paris Saint Germain on Saturday.

Football's world governing body, FIFA, ruled late Thursday that he may play against Auxerre, and the 21-year-old says he is now the happiest man in the world.

Ronaldinho has been restricted to training sessions with Gremio Porto Alegre, which was demanding a transfer fee of some $12 million, while Paris Saint Germain wanted to pay only $3 million. The actual fee has yet to be resolved. The player's contract had expired last February.

The Paris club has assigned him jersey number 21, which has some interesting connections for Ronaldinho. His full name Ronaldo Assis de Moreira has 21 letters, he was born on March 21, he is 21 years old, and when he got his first goal for Brazil he had the number 21.
