F1: Montoya Wins Pole for Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix - 2002-03-29

Colombian Formula One racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya has won the pole for Sunday's running of the Brazilian Grand Prix race in Sao Paulo.

Montoya in a Williams-BMW completed the 4.309 Jose Carlos Pace course in one minute, 13.114 seconds, for an average speed of more than 212 kilometers per hour.

Four-time world driving champion Michael Schumacher in the new Ferrari F-2002 car was second fastest, more than one-eighth of one second back. His brother Ralf Schumacher in another Williams had the third fastest time. Defending champion David Coulthard of Britain in a McLaren-Mercedes was fourth.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello saw his hopes of starting near the front evaporate when he ran through a red light at the end of the pits during free practice and was stripped of his fastest lap. He will start in eighth place. Sunday's race is the third in this year's Grand Prix circuit.
