German Interior Minister Otto Schily has laid a bouquet of white flowers at the entrance of a synagogue in Tunisia that was the scene of a truck explosion earlier this month that killed 11 German tourists and five others.
The truck, loaded with gasoline, exploded outside the synagogue on the resort island of Djerba April 11th.
German officials believe the explosion was deliberate and briefly detained a man on Tuesday in connection with the blast. They also say there is evidence to link the blast with the al-Qaida terrorist network blamed by the United States for the September 11th attacks.
Tunisia initially claimed the explosion was an accident, but now says it is investigating "in all directions."
Mr. Schily is due to meet with senior government officials on Monday, including President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.
