F1: Montoya Grabs Pole for Italian Grand Prix - 2002-09-14

update

Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya has turned the fastest lap in Formula One racing history while grabbing the pole for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Montoya averaged 259.827 kilometers per hour Saturday in his Williams BMW, breaking the 17-year record set by Finland's Keke Rosberg, also in a Williams, by more than eight-tenths of one kilometer per hour.

Five time world champion Michael Schumacher of Germany will start second in Sunday's race after turning a lap more than a quarter of a second slower than Montoya.
