Harrington, Romero Lead Dunhill Golf Championships - 2002-10-05


Irish Ryder Cup golfer Padraig Harrington is tied with Argentina's Eduardo Romero for the lead after the third round of the Dunhill Links golf championships in Scotland.

Harrington fired a 4-under-par, 68 on the Saint Andrews course to reach 16-under-par, 200 for the tournament. Romero also played Saint Andrews and shot a 5-under-par, 67 to move into the tie with Harrington.

Meanwhile former Masters champion Vijay Singh of Fiji is in third place at 15-under-par, 201 after shooting an 8-under-par, 64 on the Saint Andrews Course.

Scotland's Sandy Lyle and Ignacio Garrido of Spain are tied for fourth at 13-under-par, 203. Both men fired 5-under-par, 67s on the Saint Andrews course. The tournament is being played on three courses - Saint Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns.

American golfer Brandt Jobe has fired a 6-under-par, 65 to take a one stroke lead over countryman Billy Mayfair after the third round of the Michelob Championship in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Jobe is at 13-under-par 200 for the tournament. Mayfair is in sole possession of second place at 12-under-par 201 after shooting a 3-under-par, 68 in his second round.

Australian Geoff Olgilvy and Americans Charles Howell III, Scott Hoch, and Corey Pavin are tied for third at 10-under-par, 203 after three rounds.

Former British Open winner and overnight co-leader David Duval of the United States struggled in his third round, firing a 3-over-par, 74 and falling off the lead to 6-under-par, 207 for three rounds.
