A U.S. diplomat was killed outside his home in the Jordanian capital, Amman, Monday morning by an unknown assailant.
The diplomat was killed at 7:30 AM, just before getting into his car to go to work. A Jordanian security official said the assailant fled.
The diplomat was identified as Lawrence Foley, a senior diplomat for the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Jordan's Information Minister Mohammed al-Adwan condemned the attack as a dastardly, criminal act.
Mr. Al-adwan declined to speculate on whether the attack was a terrorist incident, but he called it an act of "aggression on Jordan and its national security." He said such attacks will not be tolerated.
