Two-time Australian tennis Open champion Jennifer Capriati has withdrawn from next week's Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne due to a back injury.
The 27-year-old Capriati, injured in November in the season ending WTA Championship, also missed a tournament in Hong Kong last week.
Capriati, the 2001 and 2002 Australian Open winner, is the latest former champion to withdraw from this year's tournament.
Defending champion Serena Williams, 1995 champion Mary Pierce and four time winner Monica Seles have also pulled out.
