Actress Fay Wray of  <i>King Kong</i> Fame Dies at 96 - 2004-08-10


Fay Wray, the actress who won fame for her role in the 1933 movie classic, King Kong, has died. A spokesman said Wray died Sunday at her Manhattan apartment at age 96.

During her movie career, the Canadian-born actress had roles in about 100 films. But, Wray was best known for her performance as the screaming girl who was carried up the Empire State Building by the giant ape King Kong in the movie.

Wray also appeared in movies such as The Wedding March, The Vampire Bat, Dr. X and The Mystery of the Wax Museum . Wray starred opposite such leading men as Gary Cooper and Ronald Colman during her career.
