Bush/Clinton Katrina Fund Raises $96 Million

The fundraising effort led by former U.S. presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton has raised more than $96 million for Hurricane Katrina victims.

A statement from the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund says $90 million came from corporate contributions and large gifts from individuals. It says the remaining $6 million came through online donations from some 37,000 people.

Mr. Clinton said the American people have once again shown their great capacity to come to the aid of people in need. Mr. Bush, father of the current president, called the effort to rebuild after Katrina "a massive undertaking."

Money from the fund will go to the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, as well as relief organizations.
