The National Basketball Association launched its 2005-2006 season Tuesday night, and The Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns enjoyed the league's longest season opener. Dirk Nowitzki scored 28 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to help the Mavericks outlast the Suns 111-108 in double-overtime.
Nowitzki hit a pair of key long jump shots and teammate Keith Van Horn sunk a three-pointer in the second overtime. The Suns' Steve Nash missed a three pointer at the buzzer that would have tied the score.
Elsewhere in the NBA Tuesday, it was:
Milwaukee Bucks 117 | Philadelphia 76ers 108 |
San Antonio Spurs 102 |
Denver Nuggets 91 |
New Orleans Hornets 93 |
Sacramento Kings 67 |
