FIFA Asks Mexico About Player Suspensions

The International Football Federation FIFA has asked Mexico to explain why it suspended two players from the Confederations Cup tournament earlier this week.

FIFA spokesman Markus Siegler said a report is expected soon on why defenders Salvador Carmona and Aaron Galindo were suspended.

Mexican news reports said the two were suspended because of positive dope tests. However, Mexico's coach Ricardo Lavolpe has vehemently denied those reports, insisting the players were suspended for breaching the team's code of conduct.

The FIFA Spokesman also discounted the reports by saying that there had been no positive dope tests during the Confederations Cup. Mexico has a semifinal match against Argentina Sunday.
