Lebanese-based Hezbollah guerrillas and Israeli troops have exchanged heavy fire along a disputed stretch of their border, following days of sporadic shelling from both sides.
Hezbollah-run television said its guerrillas attacked an Israeli post Friday in the disputed Shebaa Farms border area in retaliation for Israeli attacks this week on Lebanese territory.
Israeli army officials say Hezbollah fired at least nine rockets or mortars at their posts. Israeli tanks and aircraft returned fire and its military reports destroying four Hezbollah posts. There were no immediate reports of casualties on either side.
The Shebaa farms has remained a source of tension since Israel withdrew its troops from parts of southern Lebanon five years ago, following a 22-year occupation.
