The report by the semi-official Fars news agency quoted a top judiciary official as saying Mr. Ganji was not home when agents with an arrest warrant went to his house Tuesday.
The official said Mr. Ganji was granted leave from prison last month to undergo medical checkups for a number of health related complaints. But the official was quoted as saying that leave was now over.
Mr. Ganji was jailed in 2001 after publishing a series of articles alleging top government officials were involved in killing political dissidents.
Mr. Ganji was scheduled to appear on a VOA Persian Service radio call-in show Tuesday. His wife appeared on the show in his place.
