Afghan District Chief Dies in Blast

Officials in eastern Afghanistan say a bomb blast has struck the vehicle of a district chief, killing him.

Authorities say Noor Agha Kamran was killed Saturday in the explosion in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province.

Police say at least one of his bodyguards and several bystanders were wounded in the attack.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but the Taliban regularly uses such tactics in its fight against President Hamid Karzai's U.S.-backed government.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and AFP.
