2 US Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

International forces in Afghanistan say two U.S. service members died Sunday following a gun attack by militants in eastern Afghanistan.

Later, the Norwegian military said four of its soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb.

June has become the deadliest month of the war for NATO troops in Afghanistan, with nearly 100 killed.

NATO also says precision airstrikes by joint Afghan-international security force have killed an unspecified number of Taliban insurgents in recent days.

NATO and Afghan security officials say a Taliban commander who served as a senior foreign fighter and weapons facilitator was among those killed in an airstrike in Kunduz province Saturday. The alliance says the insurgents were meeting in a field in an unpopulated area.

Authorities say the Taliban commander coordinated logistical support and operations with the Taliban's Pakistan foreign fighter cell leadership. He was formerly in charge of the Taliban in the Gor Tappa region.

NATO also confirmed that an airstrike in southern Afghanistan Thursday killed a Taliban commander and sub-commander as they were placing a bomb on a road in Kandahar city.
