The African Union has lifted its suspension of Madagascar, saying the country has completed its transition process and restored constitutional order.
The AU's Peace and Security Council decided Monday to end the suspension, which was imposed after a 2009 coup, and invited Madagascar to "immediately resume its participation."
President Hery Rajaonarimampianina took office Saturday after winning an election in December.
The AU noted the presidential poll and legislative elections in its decision Monday, expressing appreciation to the people of Madagascar for an inclusive, credible and legitimate process.
