Blogger Hacked to Death in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh
Dhaka, Bangladesh

A blogger was brutally hacked to death by three men in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on Monday.

Police apprehended two of the three suspects, whom police say are students at religious schools.

A police official said the suspects had targeted Washiqur Rahman for his anti-Islamic writings.

There has been a string of attacks on independent writers who have supported freethinking values in predominately Muslim Bangladesh in recent years.

Avijit Roy, a prominent Bangladeshi-American blogger who wrote against religious fundamentalism, was hacked to death in Dhaka last month.

Reporters Without Borders rated Bangladesh 146th among 180 countries in a ranking of press freedom last year.
