Pre-race favorite California Chrome burst ahead of the pack Saturday to easily win "the most exciting two minutes in sports," the Kentucky Derby.
The victory at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, made California Chrome's trainer, 77-year-old Art Sherman, the oldest man to train the race winner.
California Chrome was a 5-2 morning favorite at the 140th running of the race and was ridden by Victor Espinoza. It was the horse's fifth victory in a row.
Commanding Curve took second place, followed by Danza in third place and Wicked Strong in fourth.
The Kentucky Derby is known as much for drawing crowds of women in large, fancy hats and men in brightly colored clothes as it is for its drink of choice, the mint julep.
The Kentucky Derby is the first of the trio of races that make up the Triple Crown, along with the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
