Maloney says he is married and he and his husband have three children.
He is introducing Sarah McBride, an LGBT activist and the first transgender person to speak at a major party convention.
The crowd cheers loudly.
McBride says transgender issues must be addressed, such as violence against transgender people.
Since McBride came out, she says "I have seen that change is possible. I witnessed history while interning in the White House and helping my home state of Delaware pass protections for transgender people."
McBride says, "Today in America, LGBTQ people are targeted by hate that lives in both laws and hearts. Many still struggle just to get by. But I believe tomorrow can be different. ... That's why I'm with her."
