Eaton of US Breaks Decathlon Record in Beijing

United States' Ashton Eaton celebrates as he crosses the finish line after his decathlon 400m race at the World Athletics Championships at the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing, Aug. 28, 2015.

Ashley Eaton of the United States broke his own record in the decathlon at the 2015 world championships in Beijing Saturday.

Eaton, the Olympic champion in the event, finished with 9,045 points after running 4 minutes, 17.52 seconds in the 1,500 meters race, the last of the 10 decathlon events. He set the former record at the U.S. Olympic trials three years ago.

Eaton had not competed in a full decathlon in two years prior to this week's competition in the Chinese capital. He also set a decathlon world record Friday in the 400-meter run, with 45.00 seconds.

Second place in the Beijing decathlon went to Damian Warner of Canada.
