Gunmen Open Fire on Kenyan Coastal Town

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a popular Indian Ocean coastal town in Kenya Sunday in an attack that witnesses say went on for hours.

There are no immediate reports of casualties in Mpeketoni which came while bars and cafes were packed with fans watching football's World Cup tournament on television. At least two hotels were set on fire.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but an army spokesman blames al-Shabab militants from neighboring Somalia.

Al-Shabab has been behind a number of attacks in Kenya, which has sent troops across the border to help Somalia forces defeat the Islamic militant group.
