Indonesia to Host Miss World Pageant Despite Protests

Beauty queens from around the world will sashay down the runway in Bali, Indonesia Saturday despite weeks of protests and warnings from embassies that extremists might attack the Miss World pageant.

This year's contest was slated to be held in the Indonesia capital, Jakarta, but was moved to the majority-Hindu resort island of Bali amid security concerns.

Islamic extremists protested this year's pageant location in Indonesia, one of the most populous Muslim nations in the world.

Protesters say it is insulting to have women wearing bikinis and form-fitting evening attire in the majority Muslim nation.

Despite the move, concern remains that Muslim extremists may try to disrupt the event. The Australian, British, and U.S. embassies have issued warnings to citizens planning trips to Bali during the competition, saying there could be large-scale protests or even attacks.
