Authorities in central Kenya say a police officer has killed 10 people in an early-morning shooting spree.
The rampage happened around 1 a.m. local time Sunday in Siakago, a small town northeast of the capital Nairobi.
Police spokesmen say the officer left guard duty at a local station after hearing that his girlfriend was drinking with police colleagues at a nearby bar.
They say the man went to the bar, shot and killed two fellow officers, then went to another bar and began shooting indiscriminately.
Eight civilians in addition to the two police officers were dead by the time the rampage ended. Police say the shooter eventually turned himself in at the Siakago police station.
Police have launched an investigation.
