Kenyan Police Say Body Found in River is Not Yebei's

Local media in Kenya report a body of a man found near the town of Eldoret is not a missing witness in the International Criminal Court case against Deputy President William Ruto as previously thought.

Meshack Yebei, an alleged defense witness in Ruto's crimes against humanity case, has been missing since last year, and his family had identified the body as his.

But police Thursday said DNA test results prove the body, discovered in a river early this month, belongs to a man named Yusuf Hussein - a bus driver who has also been missing.

Ken Yebei, Meshack's brother, tells VOA that he is still sure the body is Meshack because he identified the body at the morgue. He says the DNA results "came as a surprise."

Yebei said police came to his house and "told us the test shows that 99.9 percent the body belongs to Yusuf's family."

He says the Yebei family has sent away for independent DNA testing from a lab in South Africa and are still waiting for the results.
